Haven't sold rights for 'PK' remake: Rajkumar Hirani

Mumbai: Filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani says that he has neither sold the rights of his film ‘PK’ for a Tamil version, nor is he planning to remake it. However, he has confessed that some people are in talks with him for a remake.

"We haven't sold the rights (of ‘PK’) yet. Some people have called. Some conversation is happening but nothing has been finalised yet," Hirani said here Wednesday during the DVD launch of the film.

Meanwhile, there are reports that southern superstar Kamal Haasan is in talks to do the Tamil version of the Aamir Khan-starrer ‘PK’.

Left 'Singh Is Bling' due to constant delay: Kriti Sanon

Mumbai: Actress Kriti Sanon says she stepped out of Prabhudheva's directorial ‘Singh Is Bling’ as it was constantly getting delayed and also because its dates were clashing with her other projects.

"I'm not doing 'Singh Is Bling' now. I think you all must have read. The film was getting delayed for many reasons," the actress said here on Tuesday at the launch of Spring-Summer collection of the store Aldo.

"Now when the film is starting, its dates are clashing with my other projects, so I chose not to do it," she added.

The 24-year-old, who made her Bollywood debut with Sajid Nadiadwala's ‘Heropanti’ last year, said she was keen to feature in the movie.

"I was preparing a lot for the film. Akshay Kumar and Prabhudheva are a team that you always want to be a part of, she said, but added that she does not regret her decision to step out from the film.

"It is a mutual decision. Producer (of 'Singh Is Bling') Ashvini Yardi and I tried a lot to work out the dates, but nothing worked. Then we mutually decided that I step out of the film," she said.

After the ‘Heropanti’ actress' exit from the film, Amy Jackson has been roped in opposite Akshay in the film. Kriti feels "Amy suits the role perfectly".

"Now Amy Jackson is doing the film. Since I know the script, I can say she suits the role perfectly and I wish her all the best."

Meanwhile, there are reports that Kriti has signed filmmaker Rohit Shetty's film.

However, she refused to divulge any details and said: "I'm really sorry as I won't be able to comment on that film right now. Wait for some more time, you will hear everything about the film...I will talk about the film when the time is right."

Theo James drops out of 'Underworld' sequel

London: Actor Theo James will not star in 'Underworld: Next Generation'. It was reported last year that the fifth 'Underworld' movie would focus on James's vampire character David, who was introduced in 2012's 'Underworld: Awakening'.

But James, 30, who reprises his role as Four in this month's 'Insurgent', said that he is now unlikely to return for the sequel.

"No, they have something in the works, but my involvement in it is... I think it's going be very difficult to do that with these 'Divergent' movies, and my other commitments," James said.

Kate Beckinsale, who has played Selena in all four of the 'Underworld' movies to date, is also expected to be absent from the fifth installment, although writer-producer Len Wiseman recently hinted otherwise.

'American Sniper' becomes highest grossing film of 2014 with $500M earnings

Washington: Clint Eastwood directed movie ' American Sniper' has grossed 500 million dollars globally and has become the highest grossing film of 2014 after beating 'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part I' last weekend.

The Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow movie cashed-in 337.2 million dollars domestically, with 163 million dollars internationally as it got released on more than 4,900 screens in 57 markets, Deadline.com reported.

The Bradley Cooper starrer film has earned 20.5 million dollars in the UK, 15.1 million dollars in Australia, topped with 16.8 million dollars in France whereas scored second position with 12.2 million dollars in Japan.

This military action thriller film has become the biggest debut this weekend for Eastwood ever and went on to become the director's top title of all time. 

Aamir Khan not the villain in 'Detective Byomkesh Bakshy'

Mumbai: Aamir Khan is not playing the baddie in 'Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!' with directorDibakar Banerjee Monday saying the superstar had rejected an offer for the role.

Banerjee, who launched the detective sleuth's second trailer where a man with a mask grabs the limelight, said Aamir did not take up the role as he was already playing a negative character in 'Dhoom 3'.

"I was looking for a villain who can give competition to Byomkesh and can also attract the audience. So, we went to Aamir and gave the narration to him but he passed the film and said maybe not this one. Later on I came to know that he is doing 'Dhoom 3' in a villainous role," Dibakar told reporters here.

There were reports that Aamir was playing the role of the villain.

The makers of the film, which is releasing on April 3, are yet to reveal the villain's face.

"We can't show the villain's face in the trailer because it's a thriller film," Banerjee added.

The 'Shanghai' director, who bought the rights of all 33 Byomkesh Bakshi stories penned by eminent Bengali writer Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay, said he will think about giving a big screen adaptation to the rest of the stories after the release of the film.

"We are waiting for the first film to do well. This kind of film has not been made. Many years back in the 1950s there was a trend of such films now that tradition has gone. The aim was to make a film which has newness in it.

"Our franchise is ready... We would love the franchise to go on. Byomkesh 1 is over for me and now me and Sushant think about the rest of the stories," he added.

Produced by Yash Raj Films and Banerjee himself, 'Kai Po Che' star Sushant Singh Rajput is playing the titular character in the movie that also stars Meiyang Chang, Swastika Mukherjee and Anand Tiwari. 

Murugadoss's next with Sonakshi Sinha set to roll

Mumbai: Filmmaker A.R. Murugadoss's yet-untitled Hindi outing, an action thriller with Sonakshi Sinha, is set to go on the floors this week. The film will also feature veteran actor Shatrugan Sinha in an important role.

"The film goes on floors on March 14 here. Murugadoss has also roped in Sonakshi's father to essay a brief but important role," a source from the film's unit said.

The film, which will be produced by Fox Star Studios, is the official remake of Tamil sleeper hit ‘Mounaguru’.

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has been roped in to play the baddie in the film, which marks Murugadoss's third venture in the language after ‘Ghajini’ and ‘Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty’.

The rest of the cast will be finalised soon.

Boxer Salman Khan in 'Sultan'?

New Delhi: 'Dabangg' Salman Khan is known for his action films, where he reinvented himself as a new-age 'hero'—who can romance the heroine and kick the butt at the same time. The 49-year-old actor has all the buzz going around him, these days.

According to reports, Sallu bhai will be seen playing a boxer in Ali Abbas Zafar's next titled 'Sultan'. It has been reported that Salman will be for the first time seen playing a character like this. However, the actor is currently busy with 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo' and 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan'.

Before starting off 'Sultan', Salman will have to prepare for the role, which would require immense physical workout too—to look like a boxer. Other actors who have earlier played a boxer on screen include—Anil Kapoor and Mithun Chakraborty. Interestingly, Akshay Kumar and Sidharth Malhotra will be seen playing boxers in 'Brothers'.

No official statement has been made either by the makers or by the actor as yet.

Mumbai: We may see Hrithik Roshan do an Aamir Khan by stripping completely for the opening scene of Ashutosh Gowariker’s period film – ‘Mohenjo Daro’, latest reports suggest.

The actor, who has till date flaunted his chiselled torso, is expected to go a step ahead for the film in question based on the Indus Valley Civilisation.

Priyanka Chopra unveils starcast of debut American TV show

Los Angeles: Indian actress-singer Priyanka Chopra's debut American show 'Quantico' will feature an international starcast including Jake McLaughlin, Dougray Scott and Aunjanue Ellis.

The 32-year-old former Miss World took to Instagram to reveal the cast of the upcoming ABC show, which also features Tate Ellington, Graham Rogers, Johanna Braddy and Yasmine Al Massri.

"Cast list... #Quantico #PrepDay #Pilot," Priyanka wrote alongside a horizontal collage of photographs of the actors in the show.

It has been reported that McLaughlin, also 32, will play Priyanka's love interest on the series. The actor has previously starred on the J J Abrams and Alfonso Cuaron's NBC drama 'Believe'.

Josh Safran of 'Gossip Girl' fame will pen the script and executive produce the ABC Studios and Mark Gordon Company drama alongside Mark Gordon and Nick Pepper.

Marc Munden will direct the pilot.

The drama centres on a group of young FBI recruits, who battle their way through training at the Quantico base in Virginia.

Priyanka will play Alex Weaver, a brilliant but haunted FBI trainee whose past boils to the surface soon after her arrival at Quantico.

Aditya Pancholi granted bail after arrest for brawl at Mumbai pub

New Delhi: Bollywood actor Aditya Pancholi has always been controversies' favourite child. In a recent incident the actor wasarrested after he allegedly assaulted one of the bouncers at aMumbai pub, reports claimed on Sunday. The actor has now been granted bail, as per ANI reports. 

Reports suggest that the actor got involved in a clash with a bouncer after his demand to play favourite Hindi song was given a thumbs down at the pub.

The 50-year old actor also allegedly hit the bouncer on his head with his mobile phone.

The bouncer suffered a head injury. Vidyasagar Vithal, Police Inspector quotes that Pancholi has been arrested for the same.

Pancholi has been charged under various sections of the IPC, including voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation. 

Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan to launch 'Broken Horses' trailer

New Delhi: Megastar Amitabh Bachchan and superstar Aamir Khan will share the stage to launch the much anticipated trailer of Vidhu Vinod Chopra's maiden Hollywood venture ‘Broken Horses’.

It is the first Hollywood film that has been written, directed and produced by an Indian. The trailer will be released on Tuesday.

"I am grateful to Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan who have agreed to launch the trailer of my first Hollywood film ‘Broken Horses’. It is a very special film for me and special people launching the trailer will make the moment even more memorable,” Chopra said in a statement.

Set in the shadows of US-Mexico border gang wars, “Broken Horses” is an epic thriller about bonds of brotherhood, laws of loyalty and futility of violence.

Distributed and marketed by Fox Star Studios in India, “Broken Horses” will hit the theatres on April 10.

'The Vatican Tapes' trailer released

Los Angeles: The trailer of upcoming horror thriller 'The Vatican Tapes' has been released by Lionsgate Films.

The video sees Djimon Hounsou as a priest and Peter Andersson as a cardinal who review films of exorcisms in the Vatican's video archives to find out the devil's master plan, reported Ace Showbiz.

The film stars Kathleen Robertson, Michael Pena, Djimon Hounsou, Dougray Scott and John Patrick Amedori.

Mark Neveldine has directed the film with the script provided by Christopher Borrelli. The horror movie will hit theatres in the US on May 22.

NBC cancels 'Allegiance'

Los Angeles: New drama 'Allegiance' has been cancelled by NBC after only five episodes.

The cancellation, however, comes as no surprise since the show failed to attract a large number of audience since its premiere, reported Ace Showbiz.

Another newbie, 'The Slap' will take over 'Allegiance'.

'Allegiance' centers on Mark (Scott Cohen) and Katya (Hope Davis), covert Russian spies deactivated decades ago, who are re-enlisted into service as they plan a terrorist operation inside the US border.

This causes a conflict in their family as their son Alex O'Connor (Gavin Stenhouse) is a young idealistic CIA analyst specialising in Russian affairs who unknowingly is investigating his own family.

The show debuted to only 5 million total viewers and a 1.1 rating in the adult 18-49 demo on February 5, and the numbers kept falling since then. The latest episode pulled in 3.4 million viewers with a 0.8 rating.

Trailer of Barkha Movie starring Sara Loren released

The trailer of Bollywood Movie Barkha was released recently starring Sara Loren Taaha Shah, Shweta Pandit, Priyanshu Chatterjee and Puneet Issar in prominent roles.

The Movie is directed by Shadaab Mirza and produced by Shabana Hashmi.

Sara Loren is a Pakistani Actress who made her Bollywood debut with the 2010 Pooja Bhatt’s Bollywood film Kajraare. The following year, she had a cameo appearance in song “Love Mein Ghum” in Reema Khan’s Love Mein Ghum.

She played the role of seductress Nisha in the 2013 film Murder 3 The following year, she made her Lollywood debut in Yasir Nawaz’s Anjuman. In 2014, She did an item number “Saiyaan” in Syed Faisal Bukhari’s Saltanat. Here real name is Mona Lizza Hussain.

'Haraamkhor', 'Dhanak' to be shown at IFFLA

Los Angeles: Shlok Sharma's "Haraamkhor" and Nagesh Kukunoor's "Dhanak" will be the opening and closing films of the 13th annual Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (IFFLA) respectively.

The world premiere of "Haraamkhor," written and directed by Sharma and starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui, will be held at the opening of the gala here on April 8, while the US premiere of Kukunoor's award-winning "Dhanak" will close the festival on April 12, reports variety.com.

The filmmakers, actor Nawazuddin and "Haraamkhor" producer Guneet Monga will attend the festival.

"Haraamkhor" tells the story of a young student falling for a 15-year-old classmate and his efforts to win her affection. However, the girl is found to be having an affair with her teacher, played by Nawazuddin.

"Dhanak" is a story about a sister leading her blind 9-year-old brother across Rajasthan in an attempt to meet Bollywood star Shah Rukh Kahn, with the promise that he'll get his vision back before his birthday.

The festival's complete lineup will be announced on March 10.

Mission Impossible: Shah Rukh, Salman, Aamir in a film together, says Farah!

New Delhi: They say never say 'no' when in showbiz. If this is true then who knows someday we migth get to see the Khan trinity—Shah Rukh, Salman and Aamir together on screen. Well, recently in an interview with a leading daily, filmmaker Farah Khan quipped that it is difficult to get these three superstars together.

Farah, who is friendly with all the three Khans in the interview said that even God can’t bring them together so I am not even attempting that. The choreographer-turned-director added that she did try to get them in one frame eight years back for the title track of ‘Om Shanti Om’ but even that didn’t happen.

However, she was quick to add that let's not lose hope completely and may be someday she will be successful in getting to cast these superstars together on screen. Well, till then all we can say is that we do wish to see this 'mission impossible' turn into 'mission successful'!

'ABCD 2' wraps up shoot!

New Delhi: Choreographer-turned-filmmaker Remo D'Souza has finally wrapped up the shoot of his upcoming venture titled 'ABCD 2' starring Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead. Now, as the film schedule has come to an end—'Badlapur' star Varun is feeling nostalgic already.

'ABCD 2' is a sequel to its earlier installment 'ABCD'. The film will reportedly see Prabhudheva in a negative shade for the first time ever on screen. It is set to release on June 19, 2015.

New Delhi: Every aspiring or even established actress in Bollywood wants to work with the Khan trinity at least once in her career. B-Town's current favourite Deepika Padukone is no exception. The leggy lass has delivered three super hit films with 'king' of Bollywood—Shah Rukh Khan, but is yet to work with the other two Khans—Aamir and Salman.

According to reports, if all goes well then Dippy baby might be seen sharing screen space with Sallu bhai in a film titled 'Sultan'. Earlier, there were reports suggesting that the two will come together for Karan Johar's 'Shuddhi', which however never happened.

Now, if rumours are to be believed—both Deepika and Salman will finally be seen together for the first time ever in 'Sultan' by Ali Abbas Zafar. However, no official statement has been made either by the makers or by the actors as yet.

We can just hope to see a fresh pair on screen!

Boomtime beyond border

India and Pakistan are divided by borders but united by Bollywood films - thus goes the popular perception in the Hindi film industry.

The statement formed the theme of last year's crossover delight Filmistan, and has been endorsed by the film fraternity on either side of the border. Now, the idea is getting massive support from the Pakistani audience with Hindi films increasingly hitting their screens.

Blame it on the maddening craze for the Indian stars, particularly the Khans, but our films are making profits in Pakistani theatres. The inflow of Indian films undoubtedly has offered reason for Indian producers and Pakistani distributors to rejoice. Conversely, Indian films are also giving a tough time to locally-produced films in Pakistan.

As many as 16 Indian films were released in Pakistan last year. Of these, Dhoom 3 emerged as the biggest hit collecting 42 crore in Pakistani rupees (or PKR). The profit margin of Dhoom 3 was way higher than the Pakistani film Waar, which was released in the same Eid weekend.
Dhoom 3 also broke the record of Chennai Express, which had earlier earned PKR 40 crore. Rajkumar Hirani's PK was also another huge hit, collecting PKR 21 crore last year. Beyond these Khan blockbusters, the Pakistani audience is fast developing a new craze for Ranbir Kapoor. The new thriller Roy, which has Ranbir in an extended cameo, had a huge opening despite the ongoing world cup matches last week. Ranbir's forthcoming film, Anurag Kashyap's Bombay Velvet, is also anxiously awaited.

"Pakistani films have the potential of doing three times more business than Indian films. However, a limited number of films are produced by indigenous filmmakers," says Nadeem Mandviwalla, a leading distributor in Pakistan. Despite a demand for banning Indian films completely, the stardom of Btown continues to boost local business.
The Pakistani film industry, referred to as Lollywood because they are mostly made in Lahore, continues to remain under the shadow of extravagant Bollywood. For instance, several film exhibitors had collaborated with filmmaker Kabir Khan and Yash Raj Films to inaugurate their state-of-the art theatres in 2012 when the sleek thriller Ek Tha Tiger released. The film, however, faced a ban by the Pakistani censors because of its direct reference to the ISI. Despite the ban, the film's hero Salman Khan continues to be the hot favourite in Pakistan and his other releases such as Bodyguard and Kick have seen a massive response in the traditional markets. Salman fans in Pakistan are anxiously waiting for his upcoming film, Kabir Khan's Bajrangi Bhaijaan scheduled to release on Eid in July.
"There are limited numbers of theatres and multiplexes in Pakistan, and that fact is always a deterrent. Besides, the film industry in Pakistan has been battling with the unregulated market of pirated DVDs and video cassettes," adds Mandviwalla.
This explains why despite the popularity of critically acclaimed hits such as Khuda Ke Liye, Bol and Zinda Bhaag, Pakistan can boast of only a few runaway successful films such as Mein Hoon Shahid Afridi, Ishq-e-Khuda, Waar and a small budget flick like Josh. Sholay, Ramesh Sippy's all-time blockbuster of 1975, is yet another Indian biggie ready to hit the screen in March. The multistarrer featuring Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjeev Kumar, Hema Malini, Jaya Bhaduri and Amjad Khan has been anxiously awaited by cross border Bollywood buffs. It has also opened gates for other old hits such as Shah Rukh Khan's Devdas and Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge.

CHENNAI EXPRESS
MONEY MATTERS: PKR 40 crore
Going by Shah Rukh Khan's appeal in Pakistan, the distributors and theatre owners made a killing by hiking ticket prices. The Rohit Shetty film gave a clear defeat to the Hollywood blockbuster Wolverine and the Akshay Kumar starrer Boss, and worked despite Waar, an Eid bonanza for the local audience.

PK
MONEY MATTERS: PKR 21 crore
Bollywood's all-time biggest blockbuster enjoyed the advantage of its deadly combination of Rajkumar Hirani and Aamir Khan. After watching 3 Idiots on home video, the cross border fans were anxious to watch the satirical drama. According to local distributors, the film was a rare one that enjoyed repeat value in Pakistan.
DHOOM 3
MONEY MATTERS: PKR 42 crore
Despite a Pakistani film, Waar, opening around the same time, Dhoom 3 managed to attract the audience. The Khan factor always helps in Pakistan, and going by Aamir Khan's popularity the film ran in five shows a day across nearly 58 screens - something unheard for a Bollywood film in Pakistan. Waar, despite being an anti-India terrorism thriller, had managed only 56 screens.

KICK
MONEY MATTERS: PKR 15 crore
Salman Khan is as popular in Pakistan as he is in India and till date not a single film starring the actor has faced a debacle at the Pakistani box office. Kick made a huge profit in lesser known theatres located in old Karachi and distributors earned PKR 65,000-70,000 per show. KHOOBSURAT MONEY MATTERS: PKR 12 crore Shashanka Ghosh's small-budget film was an average earner, primarily riding the popularity of Pakistani actor Fawad Khan. Fawad's loyal (primarily female) fan base thronged to the theatres to applaud his new innings.
NO SHOW IN PAKISTAN
Several big films failed to see light of the day in Pakistan owing to strict guidelines of the Pakistan Film Censor Board or faced a ban owing to sensitivity of the subject.
EK THA TIGER
Two new multiplex theatres were planning to show Ek Tha Tiger as their inaugural film but it faced a noshow because the film depicted the country's security agency and had Katrina Kaifplaying a Pakistani spy.
BABY
The censor boards in Islamabad and Karachi decided to ban the film because it offered a negative image of Pakistanis and several negative characters in the film had Muslim names.

HAIDER
The Shakespearean adaptation faced the heat in Pakistan because the censors feel any film depicting the controversial theme of Kashmir terrorism is unsuitable for mass viewing.
THE DIRTY PICTURE
The film ran into a dead end in Pakistan owing to its racy theme and raunchy songs. The pirated DVDs of the film were reportedly a huge hit.
