'San Andreas' built to entertain, not traumatise: Director

New Delhi: "San Andreas" director Brad Peyton says that as a filmmaker he is sensitive towards the recent Nepal earthquake, but his forthcoming action-adventure-disaster film, about a devastating quake, is "built to entertain first" and not to traumatise people.
"San Andreas", which will hit Indian screens in Hindi and English on May 29, tells the story of a search and rescue helicopter pilot Ray (Dwayne Johnson) who must navigate through the destruction from Los Angeles to San Francisco to save his daughter after the San Andreas fault line triggers an earthquake of magnitude 9.
"I feel like we respected the subject matter, we respected (the fact that) a sensitive earthquake had happened... and as a filmmaker, I'm very sensitive to that. I don't want to, you know, make this a traumatic event for people,” Peyton said in a statement, about the fact that the film is releasing barely a month after the Nepal catastrophe.
The director says his movie tells “an entertaining story”.
“I'm here to scare you in some ways, but in a very safe environment and again the focus is on the characters of this world and this story. So it's a sensitive subject matter because it's real, but I think our movie is a built to entertain first.
"And second of all, the tone of the movie is actually very sensitive to the fact that earthquakes are real," Peyton added.
The film also stars Carla Gugino, Alexandra Daddario and Paul Giamatti -- apart from Johnson.

I am a fan of Tom Hanks: Al Pacino

London: Al Pacino has revealed he has once written a fan mail to Tom Hanks. Pacino, 75, who takes on a role a little out of his comfort zone with "Danny Collins", said he liked the script because it reminded him of the kind of movie that Hanks would get involved with, reported Contactmusic.
"I like the idea that Danny was someone who was a bit fragile in a way. Tom Hanks, who I'm a big fan of, I think he's a great actor - I've written him fan mail - I thought this is an opportunity for me to play my first Tom Hanks role. It's inspiring, it inspired me," Pacino said.
The film is a biographical movie about an up and coming musician inspired by John Lennon, who later receives a letter from his hero some 40 years after it was actually written.
The actor admitted that while playing the role his confidence was sometimes lacking.
"When a director really wants you to play this part, you have to say, 'Okay already, alright, I'll do it!' I did that with 'The Godfather', believe it or not'... I didn't know what he saw in me as Michael Corleone but he was so adamant," he added. "Danny Collins" will hit theatres on May 29.

'Inside Out' to release in India on June 26

New Delhi: Disney-Pixar's animation venture "Inside Out", which received a standing ovation at the 68th Cannes International Film Festival, will hit the screens in India on June 26.
In "Inside Out", Oscar-winning director Pete Docter will take viewers to the most extraordinary location of all -- inside the mind.
The film had a Cannes premiere earlier this month, and it received a warm response.
It traces the growing up of Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Riley is guided by her emotions -- Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith).
Riley is voiced by Kaitlyn Dias, and providing the voices of Mom and Dad are Diane Lane and Kyle MacLachlan.
"The emotions are kind of like the voices in our heads," Docter said in a statement.
"When we were just getting started on this film, we looked around at our kids, friends, co-workers... and we realised that everybody has a default temperament. We all go through periods of being happy or sad, but certain people are just happy or angry or what have you. Riley is one of those happy kids," he added.

10 Things you should definitely do in a lifetime

“So little done, so much to do.” -- Cecil Rhodes
Everyone survives life but not everyone lives life to the fullest. We all are so engrossed in our busy schedules, right from the time we start going to school, college, jobs and so on, that we are stuck in a rut. We feel that our days are just passing without any tangible satisfaction.
There are certain things that each individual should do in a lifetime. Don't think and stop yourself from doing a thing just because you feel it's too late or you are too old to try something new. There is no apt time for anything.
Here is a list of things that each of us should do before the sun sets in our lives. So read, introspect and implement.Thinkstock Images used for representational purposes.
Travel solo
Travelling solo doesn't sound easy for all but one should travel alone at least once. You will get to meet interesting people, have unique experiences, it will broaden your mind and you will get to know about your own hidden traits and most importantly - your confidence level will boost. And trust me, once you do it, it is an experience you would like to replicate again.

Own a pet
A pet gives you unconditional love and understands you even when your near and dear ones dissapoint you. Everytime your dog sits near you when you are crying, or your cat cuddles up to you on a cozy winter morning you will forget all your worries in a jiffy. Pets are wonderful and make you value life.

Live alone
Living alone whether in your own land or in a foreign country gives you a liberating feeling. You learn to manage all your daily chores, take responsibilities and you get to take care of yourself without the help of your family. But it will also give you the right to decide everything by yourself. You don't have to compromise or fight your parents for indulging yourself or going out late.

Adventure Sport
Try an adventure sport the mere thought of which scares you and is out of your comfort zone. Let the adrenaline kick in and feel the thrill! Get, set, go!

Fall in love
A life without love is incomplete. Express your feelings to somebody you like! Fall in love, break your heart, find someone again! It is all worth it. Don't ever hold back your feelings.

Charity
Human nature is such that we prefer being on the receiving end instead of giving. Make charity a part of your lifestyle. Go volunteer for an organisation. Find a small child you can support or go for volunteer work in remote areas of the work. Even if you do a good deed once in your life it can make a huge difference to someone in need! And it will make you feel really good from the inside.

Splurge
Most of us have a habit of saving for the 'rainy' day. But what is the point of saving it all? Go splurge on anything that you desire. Be it a designer dress, bag, luxury car, flying first class or even blowing up all your money in a casino. The feeling will be beyond words (hopefully)!

Do something crazy
Crazy is subjective. An activity for you may seem to be normal but for some one else, it might be crazy. Get drunk, visit a haunted place, or even quit your job for your passion. Do your bit of craziness once, make your heart race!

Learn a new language
Learning a new language is exciting and it gives you an edge. Be open to it, learn and meet new people, even if it means visiting a new country. The experience will be exhilarating.

Spend time with nature
Mother nature has given precious moments which we ignore or have forgotten due to the hustle and bustle of our busy lives. Sunrise, sunset, star gazing are beautiful moments to watch and feel. Spend few days close to nature. Head out to a jungle, desert, mountains, sea, or even North Pole for that matter and connect with nature.

The 57-year-old director said he made the 'difficult' decision to pass on a chance to direct an installment of the science fiction franchise, reported Independent.
"It was difficult to turn down 'Star Wars'. I've loved 'Star Wars' since I saw the original, and I know George Lucas.
"But when I was asked to direct Episode Seven, I was working on my own idea - 'Tomorrowland'; we had a script we liked, George Clooney and Hugh Laurie had committed to it, and I didn't know whether, if we lost that momentum, we'd ever recapture it," Bird said.
