'Tanu Weds Manu'—original
One of the main reasons why this film will have people queuing outside the theatres is the fact that its original was a super hit with the masses. Director Aanand L Rai's 'Tanu Weds Manu' which released in 2011 was well received by the audiences across the globe and this gives more credibility for the sequel to be a hit. We know what to expect from this film!
Kangana Ranaut—Double role
This actress is a power house of talent, and that we all know. In the original, she impressed all as the small town girl Tanu—Tanuja Trivedi, but in the sequel she will seen in not one but two roles. The 'Queen' star will be seen playing a double role for the first time ever on-screen. Her Haryanvi speaking character is already high on praise, ever since the trailer was released. So, book your tickets asap!
R Madhavan aka Manu
R Madhavan stole our hearts with his innocent looks and killer school-boy smile in the 'Tanu Weds Manu'. He is set to entice the audiences with his charm and subtle acting in the sequel. The music from 'Tanu Weds Manu Returns' is already riding high on the chartbusters. The song 'Ghani Bawri' by Jyoti Nooran is a hit with the masses, as it has kept the 'desi' flavour intact. Also, song titled 'Banno' has been sung by Brijesh Shandllya and Swati Sharma. It is peppy and has a newness to it. The film has a 'Move On' song by Sunidhi Chauhan which will help you get over a brad break-up. Over all, music by Krsna Solo and Tanishk-Vayu is great for the ears.
Director—Aanand L Rai
We can trust this man to deliver something new and interesting. He has some great films to his credit, such as 'Raanjhana' starring Sonam Kapoor and Dhanush, besides that he made 'Tanu Weds Manu'—which we all know how well clicked with the viewers. Ali Zafar to produce his dream project 'Deosai'

Karachi: Ali Zafar has announced that he is all set to produce and act in his dream project titled ' Deosai'.
The 'Kill Dil' actor, who had always desired toproduce a feature film, will now make his dream come true with this film which will be set in the northern areas of Pakistan and shot on real locations, the Express Tribune reported.
Zafar said that he is thrilled to begin a new venture of making a film that can make a difference and will be remembered for a long time for their content besides aiming to be successful commercial ventures.
The 34-year-old Pakistani singer's dream project will be directed by Imran Babur, one of Pakistan's most respected names in visual storytelling.
The movie is scheduled to go on the floors by the end of summer 2015 and is set to hit theatres by mid-2016.

Deepika's 'Piku' overshadows Ranbir's 'Bombay Velvet'

New Delhi: Ranbir Kapoor-starrer "Bombay Velvet" has failed to displace Deepika Padukone's simple, subtle and meaningful act as a dutiful daughter in "Piku", box office figures suggest.
"A colossal flop", "a debacle", "a disaster" are some of the verdicts by film trade analysts on Anurag Kashyap's high-budget drama "Bombay Velvet", which is set in the Bombay of the 1960s and about a man who wants to make it big in life at any cost.
The film has earned a little over Rs.16 crore in its opening weekend.
Released on May 15, the film, which also stars Anushka Sharma and has marked the acting debut of Karan Johar, only managed to mint Rs.5.20 crore on its opening day and Rs.5.10 crore and Rs.5.80 crore on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
Its weekend total amounts to Rs.16.10 crore, according to trade expert Taran Adarsh, who on Twitter called the film a “debacle”.
"It's very bad. 'Bombay Velvet' earned just 16.25 crore. That should have been the day 1 collection instead of the weekend collection," trade analyst Komal Nahta told IANS.
"But you can't compare 'Bombay Velvet' to other films because of its budget of Rs.108 crore. With that amount, it should have collected Rs.15 crore on day 1. The film is a colossal flop," he added.
Another film expert, Vinod Mirani said "'Bombay Velvet' is a disaster".
However, Kashyap has no regrets that the audience is not finding a connect with his film, which has been his dream project since nine years.
"A lot of people do not connect with it and a small number of people did... Maybe our experimenting with the narrative didn't work for most but I firmly believe in the film,” he posted on his Facebook page.
The one film which has continued its success story is Shoojit Sircar's slice-of-life entertainer "Piku", which has Amitabh Bachchan, Irrfan Khan and Deepika telling an endearing family tale through their lovable characters.
“Piku” is running successfully at the cinemas and has minted Rs.14.60 crore in its second weekend, which takes its total collection to Rs.56.02 crore. In its opening weekend, it minted over Rs.25 crore.
Also, the film is being tagged as a hit overseas as it has earned $4.3 million (Rs.27.34 crore).
In fact, Adarsh has called “Piku” the “BIGGEST HIT of 2015 in Overseas”.
As far as the future of “Bombay Velvet” and "Piku" on the box office is concerned, it will be decided by Kangana Ranaut and R. Madhavan-starrer “Tanu Weds Manu Returns”, which has quite a positive buzz about it.
Directed by Anand L. Rai, the film, which stars the same cast from 2011 film “Tanu Weds Manu”, will release on Friday.

Movie Review: 'Kuch Kuch Locha Hai' - Avoid please!

Mumbai: Devang Dholakia's "Kuch Kuch Locha Hai", touted as a sex comedy, is in fact a large-scale mindless Gujarati drama on celluloid, packaged like a never-ending Balaji Telefilms soap, with skin show and cheap, ineffective thrills galore.
The story revolves around Praveen Patel (Ram Kapoor) aka PP, a middle-aged Gujarati shopkeeper settled in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He lives with his dramatic and stereotypically loud Gujarati wife Kokila Patel (Suchita Trivedi), whom he lovingly calls KoKodile and musician son, Jigar Patel (Navdeep Chabbra).
Like most NRIs, PP is besotted by Bollywood and in fact has a quirky obsession for the Bollywood 'sex bomb' Shananya (Sunny Leone).
How PP manipulates his way through to fulfil his dream for a date with Shanaya, forms the crux of this long and convoluted tale.
Unfortunately, the premise is staid and it's treatment obnoxious. Most of the scenes are tackily canned. The direction is; careless, on the face close and upfront and theatrically projected.
On the performance front, though over-the-top, Suchita Trivedi as Kokila Patel and Mehul Buch as Chanpa Patel, PP's friend, are the only two, who stand out. There is some element of sincerity in their performances. They are believable characters.
Sunny Leone is there for the oomph factor and she delivers uninhibitedly in 'full' measure, without any qualms.
Ram Kapoor as the stout PP with a moronic smile and constipated look, just hams his way through his performance. Once claiming to be a method actor, he now delivers, just as he does in every TV serial -- a lacklustre performance. With buffoonery in most of his scenes, he is an eyesore in this film.
Equally unbearable, are Navdeep Chabbra as PP's son Jigar and Evelyn Sharma as Jigar's girlfriend Naina. They are a mismatched couple. This oddity is fairly noticeable in the scenes that they are together.
The script is packed with frivolous, laugh-by-the-minute gags that are below mediocre in presentation and projection. The characters are cardboard thin with no depth or graph and the dialogues too are oft heard, cliched with Bollywood references.
The music is passable and the background score rendered with techno beats is too loud and ear blasting.
This film is a highly avoidable, unless you happen to be a Ram Kapoor fan.

‘Piku’ review: You will fall in love with Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan!

Some people are blessed with the talent of narrating a story on celluloid with incredible beauty. And Shoojit Sircar’s ‘Piku’ starring Amitabh Bachchan , Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan is one such masterpiece, which will certainly not fail in striking an emotional chord with the viewers. After ‘Vicky Donor’, Shoojit has come back to the family fold with a story that beautifully meanders through the finer nuances of the relationship between an unusual father-daughter duo.
Bhaskor Banerjee (Amitabh Bachchan) is a Bengali, based in the Delhi’s Chittaranjan Park with his roots deeply soiled in his hometown – Kolkata. His bizarre passion and obsession for constipation drives his only daughter Piku (Deepika Padukone) crazy.
30-something Piku is sandwiched between her duty towards her father and herself. Her father’s constant interference in every little affair (even the ones related to domestic chores) leaves her completely exhausted.
She co-owns an organisation along with her business partner Syed (Jisshu Sengupta) but has little time to focus on her work because of her father’s “potty” related issue.
An adamant person that Bhaskor is, he gets his “independent” daughter to do things that he insists on. And thus a road trip to the city of joy begins from Delhi. Thanks to Rana Chaudhry (Irrfan), the owner of a travel agency, who is perhaps the only vehicle provider in town to withstand the tantrums posed by Bhaskor and his ‘grumpy’ daughter, who are indeed (unfortunately) his regular clients.
Rana, Piku, Bhaskor, Bhudan ( Bhaskor’s domestic help) and the potty seat chair ( loving tagged as Singhasan meaning throne by Rana) are on board the four-wheeler, which speeds through the highway connecting the capital and Kolkata.
As the tiresome road trip begins, Rana and Piku play hide-and-seek with their emotions for each other. It begins with “I can’t stand you” and eventually blooms into a relationship that needs no introduction.
With a legend like Amitabh Bachchan and a pro like Irrfan on board, you are bound to see some matchless performances on display. And joining the league of “method actors” is Deepika Padukone. The dimpled lady has indeed evolved as an actor and is certainly going to grow stronger with time. Veteran Raghubir Yadav (though has a very minute role) is fabulous. Senior actress Moushami Chatterjee, who plays Piku’s aunt is typically Bengali and adorable.
Shoojit Sircar’s love for his roots is evident from the way he lays emphasis on one’s roots. This sequence featuring an otherwise difficult Bhaskar substantiates the observation - once Bhaskar reaches Kolkata, he rediscovers the little joys of life. He pedals through the by-lanes of the city, enjoys the local savouries and does things that is least expected from a man of his temperament- live life to the fullest.
Rana and Piku’s subtle love story too has been beautifully and softly told.
The cinematographer has brilliantly captured the essence that was required to lay justice to requirements of the story. The shot, especially the one that captures the indescribable beauty of the Hooghly river during sunset is worth a mention.
Dialogues are natural and hilarious. Music is soothing and pleasant.
In totality, ‘Piku’ is a wonderful family film, which will certainly make you wear a broad smile.

Moustachioed look in 'Bombay Velvet' was emotional for Karan Johar

Panaji: Karan Johar's respect for actors who sport a fake moustache in films has grown manifold ever since he had to flaunt one himself for his role as a villain in "Bombay Velvet". He found it "annoying", but says it was an emotional experience as it reminded his mother of his late father Yash Johar.
As Khambatta in the Anurag Kashyap directorial, Karan wears a flamboyant and debonair look. The moustache adds to the panache of his get up.
Talking about it, he told IANS here: "I would never keep a moustache! And the fake moustache... My 'izzat' (respect) for actors who stick it everyday on sets, has increased. It is annoying and irritating."
But there was one reason why he didn't mind wearing it.
"Strangely, it reminded my mother of my dad. He used to have a moustache, and I got very emotional about resembling him. So, I was happy about that, and thought I should bear with the torture," he added in a lighter vein.
In "Bombay Velvet", Karan stars alongside Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma, in a story set in the 1960s. The film's trailer exudes vintage charm, as aimed by the art direction and costume direction of the project.
