Shah Rukh Khan’s tribute to Raj Kapoor on his TV show
Mumbai: Superstar Shah Rukh Khan paid tribute to late actor-filmmaker Raj Kapoor, popularly known as the ‘Showman’, on his reality TV show ‘India Poochega Sabse Shaana Kaun?’
Years back, Raj Kapoor narrated the life of a joker in a circus through his popular movie ‘Mera Naam Joker’, hinging on “The show must go on” notion.
It was when SRK saw one of the contestants from Delhi with a joker’s nose that he trailed back to the golden era of cinema, dominated by the likes of Raj Kapoor, Dilip Kumar and Dev Anand.
The 'nose' reminded Shah Rukh of late Raj Kapoor’s iconic character from movie ‘Mera Naam Joker’, which released in 1970.
Shah Rukh, who has been tagged as 'Bollywood badshah' after carving a niche for himself in the industry with hits like ‘Dil To Pagal Hai’, ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ and ‘Dil Se..’, also tried on a 'joker's nose'.
The ‘Happy New Year’ actor got nostalgic as he remembered the legend of Bollywood cinema.
Another interesting scoop is that the &TV channel show, which will premier on the small screen on Monday, has been shot in RK Studio.
Raj Kapoor was only 24 when he launched his own studio, RK Films, and became the youngest director of his time with ‘Aag’ in 1948.
He went on to taste success by producing, directing and acting in successful movies like ‘Barsaat’ (1949), ‘Awara’ (1951), ‘Shree 420’ (1955), ‘Chori Chori’ (1956).
One of his popular song ‘Pyar hua iqrar hua’ with a hat, jacket and a shirt with the legend standing under an umbrella with co-star Nargis, is still one of the most remembered song of the yesteryear cinema. In fact Shah Rukh created the magic of the moment in his movie ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’ for the song ‘Phir milenge chalte chalte’.
